Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on 17 March
The holiday celebrating all things Irish is right around the corner. St. Patrick’s Day conjures images of shamrocks, leprechauns, the colour green, and other symbols associated with the patron saint of Ireland.
St. Patrick himself wasn’t even Irish. He was born in Britain and arrived in Ireland when he was 16 years old. He became known for spreading Christianity, using the shamrock as part of his teachings: the three-leaf clover to represent the Holy Trinity. The date of St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, marks the day it is believed that St. Patrick died in the year 461.
The “Emerald Isle” with its lush green landscape, eventually led to wearing green as a St. Patrick’s Day tradition around the world. Wear any other colour on the holiday and risk getting pinched by a leprechaun, says folklore.
Adorn your porch with the Shamrock pot trivet by Fermob, which is also available in other designs, in the colour cactus green 😉
Have a lucky day

Irish Beef and Ale Stew
Other traditions connected to St. Patrick’s Day are of the culinary variety. Whether you come from an Irish family or simply enjoy celebrating the tradition, we will help you plan a special St. Patrick’s Day meal.
This recipe was perfected over the years, and many people now make it for every St. Patrick’s Day. There are two secrets to a perfect beef stew, the first is to brown the beef well and then simmer it for over an hour so it’s nice and tender. The second secret is the addition of Guinness and red wine to the beef broth. It adds such depth to the flavour of the stew.
INGREDIENTS
1/2-1 kg stew beef
salt and pepper
2 TBS olive oil
1 (440ml) can Guinness Draught
1 cup red wine
5 cups beef stock
1 tsp dried thyme
3 bay leaves
2 TBS ketchup
3 large russet potatoes, peeled.
2 large carrots (or 20 baby carrots), peeled.
1 yellow onion, peeled.
2 TBS butter
fresh parsley
serves 6-8
INSTRUCTIONS
If your beef is in large chunks, chop it into small bite-sized pieces. Sprinkle it with a little salt and pepper. Heat the oil medium-high in a large pot and add the meat. Cook the meat for several minutes on each side, using tongs to turn individual pieces so that the meat gets nice and brown.
Add the Guinness, red wine, beef stock, thyme, bay leaves, and ketchup when your beef is well-browned. Stir well, bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and place a lid on the pot. Let it simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
While beef is simmering, chop your potatoes and carrots into bite-sized pieces, and finely chop the onion. In another pot, melt the butter on medium-high then add the potatoes, carrots, and onions. Stir the vegetables to coat them in the butter. Cook the vegetables for about 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes so that the vegetables get caramelized. Try and time it so your vegetables finish at the same time that simmering the beef ends.
Add the vegetables to the beef and broth. Simmer it for another 20 minutes with the lid on. Ladle the stew into bowls and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Delicious served on mashed potatoes.
Gluten-Free: To make this gluten-free, add extra beef stock in place of the Guinness, which is made with barley protein that can cause problems for people who react to gluten.
The vegan version of this hearty stew is cooked with your favourite vegan protein and flavoured with Guinness and fresh herbs. This stew is rich, really tasty, packed full of veggies of your choice, and quite easy to cook.
